Those of you that have known me awhile know that I have always been an advocate of fall in Paris. These days, however, I may be changing my position. The temperature recently in Paris has been glorious! The flowers are blooming, people are out and about, and everyone is in a good mood. I notice the mens are flirting a lot more as well. Online dating be damned the fellas are going for what they know in real life. I can’t tell you how many of my Parisienne peers are getting hit on left and right. We love it here!
Des Cheveux & Des Poils (Hair & Hairs)
Last week I checked out an interesting exhibit at Le Musée des Art Decoratifs with Paris Chic Code girly Birkin Claire. The exhibit, which runs through September 17th, highlights how hairstyles and grooming has changed throughout the centuries.
As I was walking up to meet Claire sis stood out like a sore thumb. She was rocking her brand new, alligator, Birkin 35 in fuschia. I am not shame to admit that I briefly thought about hitting her over the head with my Louis, and making off with the Birkin like a thief in the night. Yes, the bag was that triggering, but I digress.
The exhibit highlighted how the use of extensions or weave has been used for years across demographics. Women, regardless of race, have always elected to add hair to their own to accentuate their beauty. The exhibit also depicted how hair has been incorporated into haute couture fashion. Solange Knowles’ “Don’t Touch My Hair” music video playing on screen reflected just how diverse the exhibit was.
The exhibit showcased a variety of cultures and their hair practices. Conversely, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention how the exhibit explained the hair journey from the global south to the global north, and how global south women receive zero compensation for donating their hair to us.
After the exhibit Claire and I walked a bit and decided to try a new place for lunch. I don’t trust any of the restaurants located an arm’s throw from tourist sites because usually these places are overpriced and have trash food. We ended up stopping at Le Royal for lunch. She and I enjoyed truffle pasta, chocolate cake, and vanilla ice cream for dessert. Naturally we had a bottle of rosé to wash it all down.
A party sitting close to us was celebrating a birthday and the servers serenaded her with the Stevie Wonder happy birthday song. One of our girlies on Instagram remarked that she was so happy that the restaurant was singing that version of happy birthday. It seems the Stevie Wonder version of Happy Birthday has surpassed the traditional Happy Birthday melody and I love that for him and us.
La Suite Christian Dior
We returned to Christian Dior last week to take a tour of their VIP suite. Christian Dior clients have a unique opportunity to reserve La Suite for a whopping 20k plus per night. Guests receive top of the line services and an actual key to the flagship Avenue Montaigne location. Guests enter and exit via a guarded door reserved only for La Suite guests. Christian Dior does absolutely no advertising of La Suite. Clients are invited to stay by Christian Dior sales associates.
